Will Ospreay Was Ready To Turn Heel Before All In (AEW News)
AEW's Will Ospreay feared he'd be booed out of the building in Glasgow, Scotland.
New AEW World Champion Will Ospreay has revealed that he contemplated pulling the trigger on an impromptu heel turn of sorts just days before All In.
Speaking during an appearance on the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay discussed the Glasgow, Scotland-set Dynamite that took place in the week leading up to All In. Per the Aerial Assassin, he was certain he heard some boos when his name was announced prior to the show going on the air. With that, Will feared that he'd be booed when out in front of those Glasgow fans, and he'd thought about leaning into a more heel role if that was the case.
Talking about doubting himself and, as he put it, nearly scoring "an own goal", Ospreay said:
"There was a promo that I done in Glasgow, it was the Dynamite right before All In. And just before they started doing it, they started doing, like, the, 'What do you think of this wrestler?' 'Yay!' 'What do you think of this wrestler?' 'Yay!' And then they said, 'Ospreay?', and I'm not even joking, I heard boos. I had a genuine moment backstage, I looked at Brainbuster, who's the photographer, because he was getting some candid photos, and I heard that, and there was a genuine moment of, like, 'Are they gonna boo me?'Once again, between England and Scotland, there is heat, but I've never said that I'm an English wrestler. I've always said I'm a British wrestler. But there is always heat in terms of that type of country, right? Just before my music, I just, 'Please don't boo, please don't boo', because I genuinely think I would have just switched it and I probably would have leant more bad guy. But then, thankfully, thankfully they cheered, and we ended up riff-raffing between us."
Of course, Will Ospreay received a hugely positive reaction from those in attendance at Glasgow's OVO Hydro for that Dynamite, and then received an even bigger, emotional reaction at All In at Wembley Stadium a few days later.
