WrestleMania 36 was a record-breaking social media smash for WWE, the company has announced.

The promotion issued a statement confirming this on Monday (h/t Wrestling Headlines):-

"According to Nielsen Social, WrestleMania saw 13.8 million total social media interactions on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, +57% vs. last year’s WrestleMania, and most in WWE history.”

That's a big jump, so congratulations to the promotion for their success, though numbers were likely inflated by the show going down over two nights rather than one.

While these figures are certainly something to be proud of, WrestleMania 36's more important success metrics are yet to emerge. WWE is yet to confirm how many people watched the show on the Network and it'll likely be days before pay-per-view buyrates come out. These will give a truer gauge of how well 'The Showcase of the Immortals' fared.

Nonetheless, WWE's social media dominance is a growing feather in their cap and their continued growth is impressive, with officials continually pointing to these numbers during earnings reports and calls. That the promotion uses these platforms effectively is undeniable and while no substitute for conventional TV revenue (still WWE's biggest earner), this could be seen as future-proofing.
