Wrestler Wins First AEW TV Match In 3 Years; Becomes Title Contender!
This worker must've enjoyed Tony Khan's booking on this week's AEW Rampage.
Tony Khan had a surprise waiting for fans who tuned into this week's edition of AEW Rampage. Walking nightmare gimmick Abadon shockingly won a four-way match designed to determine a new number one contender for Hikaru Shida's AEW Women's Title.
To put that into context, this was Abadon's first win on mainline AEW television since December 2020. The character has rarely shown up on top shows like Dynamite, Rampage or Collision in recent years, but bagged the win by defeating Anna Jay, Willow Nightingale and Skye Blue.
Now, she'll roll on to Saturday's episode of Collision for a (seemingly one-off) clash vs. Shida for the belt.
Abadon's last win on a top AEW TV show came when she vanquished Tesha Price on the 9 December 2020 Dynamite. That was taped approx a week earlier on 3 December. Since then, Abadon has worked extensively on now-scrapped online programming like Dark and Dark: Elevation, but she's barely been spotted on TV.
It remains to be seen if this will lead to more showings for Abadon in coming months. She might well disappear back into the shadows. Or, that'll be what Tony Schiavone/Excalibur/someone claims on commentary, at least.
