Wrestling Is About ONE Thing - And Here's Who Rules At It
AEW have done a stellar job of getting so many unfamiliar talents over to the TV audience. It's probably not fair an assessment to include the various midcard delights - this list is about drawing power and true stardom, not the ability to generate memes - but the likes of Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D., Orange Cassidy and Sammy Guevara have proven themselves capable of getting over in the social media sphere. The former and latter were unknowns; the old, tedious take, that fans were generous in reaction due to their runs elsewhere - as if that was a bad thing - doesn't apply.
On a list of theoretical and or prospective game-changers, however, MJF firmly belongs on the list. He is a strong per-segment ratings draw, and his lashing of Cody was a big main event seg success. The fans could punch that little bastard until their muscles atrophy, he's that good a heel, and he has prospered within AEW's shared universe approach. MJF works because he's so convincing. He is superior to everybody in his own mind, and virtually everybody hates him. Referee Paul Turner relented and allowed Cody to bend the rules at Revolution, just to see MJF whipped. MJF called Tony Schiavone a "fat prick" on Dynamite last week. Schiavone in response called him a "big mouth brat". These small details, this concerted effort, works in tandem with MJF's brilliant work and the long-term booking to engineer a star.
