Wrestling Legend Terry Funk Is Living With Dementia
Funk has entered an assisted living home to deal with his condition.
Pro wrestling legend Terry Funk has entered an assisted living facility as he is suffering from dementia.
Don Muraco broke this unfortunate, tragic story on a recent episode of his Magnificent Podcast. It has since been confirmed by PWInsider's Mike Johnson. Muraco heard of Funk's situation after speaking with former wrestler Scott Casey, who, like Funk, hails from Amarillo, Texas.
Terry's health situation has gotten progressively worse over the past few years. In recent times the 77-year-old was reportedly suffering from severe hip pain back in February and experienced a bout of COVID-19 in April.
Few people have ever done more good for wrestling than Funk, who deserves to go down as one of the greatest of all time by any metric. A major star for the NWA and AJPW in his '70s and '80s heyday, he reinvented himself for a new generation in the '90s, becoming an important early figurehead for ECW, having excelled as a singles wrestler, tag wrestler, babyface, heel, technician, brawler, hardcore wrestler, promoter, and much more throughout his lengthy career.
Wrestling will never see another as adaptable - or tough - as Terry Funk.
We at WhatCulture send our best wishes to Terry, his family, and his friends at this difficult time in their lives.
