Wrestling’s 10 Biggest Missed Opportunities Of 2023
9. The Underwhelming Arrival Of Nick Aldis In WWE
Seeing former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion on WWE television is a wonderful thing.
He's a hard-working bloke who has put his heart and soul into the business for years. But while he had produced some strong work in the likes of TNA and the NWA during his near-20-year career, Nick Aldis had never been handed the opportunity to make a splash in the world of sports entertainment.
However, he was finally given that chance in October. And it was about as underwhelming as you could bloody imagine.
The same guy who wrestled Cody Rhodes for the aforementioned top NWA title at All In 2018 was given one of the blandest and strangest introduction of recent times, with Triple H revealing his new SmackDown general manager by simply having him suddenly appear at ringside.
The crowd understandably had no idea how to react to this chiselled Brit in a blue suit on the night.
It all felt flat as hell.
Would it have really been that difficult to throw together a little video package hyping up the arrival of this respected personality to play moments before he popped up on Friday nights?
Aldis immediately looked like just another dull authority figure, but he's thankfully gone on to smash the role in the wake of this crap arrival.
