Writer Kenice Mobley Released By WWE

Mobley caught flak for her lack of WWE product knowledge earlier this week.

Writer Kenice Mobley has been let go by WWE on the same week that her appearance on the Asian Not Asian podcast made headlines across wrestling media.

Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed Mobley's departure, adding that he had been told WWE let her go due to an internal concern rather than as a consequence of the reception to her podcast appearance.

Mobley had drawn considerable criticism for revealing that WWE didn't require her to know anything about their product (or wrestling in general) to bring her in as a writer. Amongst other comments, the standup comedian also confused Bobby Lashley's name for "Bobby Ashley."

Dave Meltzer reported in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Mobley was "under the gun" for talking about processes that WWE didn't want to be disclosed for mass consumption, with the company apparently embarrassed by the situation going public. Now, she has been let go from the promotion.

The public backlash aimed at Mobley was largely misplaced. Criticism towards WWE hiring writers with no wrestling knowledge or experience should be aimed at the company, not the employee, who fit WWE's job requirements when she was brought in. Still, according to Meltzer, the podcast appearance brought internal negativity upon Mobley in WWE.
