WWE: 10 Awesome Shawn Michaels Matches (That Nobody Talks About)

1. The Rockers vs Doug Somers and Buddy Rose - AWA Brawl In St Paul, 1986

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvHZqCYlN78 While most wrestling fans have heard of The Rockers, it's surprising how many have yet to see a single match from one of sports entertainment's finest tag teams. But before they made their way into the WWE, Michaels and Jannetty were already tearing it up in the declining AWA with top heel team "pretty boy" Doug Summers and "playboy" Buddy Rose. Both of whom were as cool as their names suggested. I was torn between this and their killer title match a few months earlier, but decided against it due to the lack of a satisfying finish. Having said that, almost every match in this feud was world class and could easily have been placed here instead. I strongly urge you to seek out as many matches between these four as you can. The teams had been fighting over the titles for several months, with The Rockers failing to get the job done when the belt was on the line. In their last bout, things descended into anarchy, leaving them to settle things in a steel cage. We're talking a good ol' fashioned blood feud. The cage has lost a lot of credibility due to overexposure in the 25 plus years since this match aired, but seeing it sold with this much gravitas, those doubts melt away and it soon feels like the spectacle it once was. Also helping the suspension of disbelief is Michaels pulling out a MAN-SIZED bladejob, leaving him helplessly wondering around the ring, before taking the low-road (pun intended), biting and crotch punching his way to safety. It's those moments that turn a good match into a great one: the face choosing to cheap shot his way to his corner in order to survive this brutal environment. Other highlights include Rose finding himself unable to stall in the cage and Michaels getting revenge by busting him open on the "galvanized steel". Which is just an awesome way of putting it. Well done AWA commentators, you've just invented one of my favourite ever wrestling phrases. Jannetty finally hits the hot tag and finishes things off with a battering ram. While this wouldn't be the conclusion of their feud, it very well may be the peak.

I've been writing since I was fourteen and thought it might get girls to like me. It didn't. I should have learned guitar instead.
