WWE: 10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In WrestleMania History

6. Rey Mysterio's Title Win At WrestleMania 22

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmalWq894dk Now I'm not going to argue with the result here. Rey Mysterio needed to win this bout. This was the culmination of an unfortunate feud against Orton, where the Legend Killer mocked the recently deceased Eddie Guerrero to goad Mysterio into putting his title shot on the line. The lowest point came when Randy told Rey that Eddie was in hell. Even when you consider the WWE has broadcast storylines involving necrophilia, racism, satanism and forcing a woman in her underwear to bark like a dog, this was in astonishingly bad taste. Anything other than a win for the masked man would rightly have gone down about as well as Hulk Hogan in a limbo competition. So what's the problem? Rey Mysterio did win. Yes, he did win, in nine minutes. That's right, nine. When you consider that the entrances for the main event got over five minutes, that's kind of a slap in the face. Now this was no squash. If he'd dominated Orton in a rage-fueled performance, that kind of time slot might have been acceptable. Even though I'm not sure Rey could pull that off, in theory that could be a satisfying conclusion. But it wasn't that kind of match. This was an athletic three way also featuring Kurt Angle. Yeah, the Olympic gold medalist was there to hold on to the gold, despite having sod all to do with the build up. So what we got was an exciting match that feels like it's in fast forward. It's great fun, but ultimately Rey's win just feels a little underwhelming. He deserved better and the memory of Eddie Guerrero deserved better too. What could have ended with a bang merely crackled.

I've been writing since I was fourteen and thought it might get girls to like me. It didn't. I should have learned guitar instead.
