WWE: 10 Biggest Things Creative Did That The Fans Didn't Want

9. Bringing Back The N.W.O

Wwenwo The red and yellow of Hulk Hogan in the 1980's WWF was iconic. As such, when Hogan finally returned to the WWF in 2002, fans wanted to see The Hulkster who was best remembered from the glory years. Fans wanted to cheer Hogan, who was viewed as the man the WWF had been built upon. Vince McMahon was on a different page altogether. The WWF brought Hogan back as a heel, cladding him in the black and white of the NWO. It wasn't a good move. WCW had beyond killed the NWO, it was a stale and uninspiring stable. The result was that Hogan ended up being loudly cheered when he was meant to be booed, most notably at Wresltemania X8 against The Rock. It worked out in some ways, because that match was hugely memorable thanks to the crowd reaction. But it is yet another example of the WWF not being in tune with the audience, fans wanted Hulkamania not the NWO. So badly received was this WWF reboot of the NWO that it was all over in a couple of months. Hogan had to be turned face and Kevin Nash tore his quad. The whole thing had been a dismal failure and a black mark in the first few months of 2002.
