WWE: 10 Booking Steps To John Cena Turning Heel On Daniel Bryan

10. Cena Wins Money In The Bank 2014

In building a Cena heel turn on Daniel Bryan, the storytelling process should begin next month at Money In The Bank. With Bryan retaining his title at the event (back to action and against Triple H perhaps), Cena closes the evening by winning the Money in the bank ladder match. This sets up an interesting dynamic for Cena against Bryan over the next year. At any point Bryan is now vulnerable to Cena. WWE don't even have to explicitly tease it, the story should be subtle, an acute awareness that Cena is on collision course with the WWE Champion. This is where the slow burn of Cena's heel turn comes in. He is constantly pictured with the money in the bank briefcase, there'd be a 'would he, wouldn't he?' question constantly surrounding his character. We are already kind of seeing this in Cena's Wyatt feud, the fans are being forced to ask if Cena will compromise his character to overcome a foe. After the Wyatt feud ends, putting the briefcase on Cena and continuing that character morality tease against Bryan is a sensible way to go. It lays the groundwork for an eventual snapping. As Undertaker proved at WrestleMania 30: all unthinkable things have to happen, every tease has to have a payoff.
