WWE: 10 Controversial Wrestlers Who Belong In The WWE Hall of Fame

4. CM Punk

This next slide may become obsolete at any time, but if CM Punk never does return to the WWE he definitely deserves to get in to their Hall of Fame. The fact that he ever got in the company at all is pretty amazing. With his relatively skinny look, his strange tattoos and straight-edge lifestyle, he seemed an odd fit for the wrestling profession. After becoming a big name on the indies, he was finally signed to a developmental contract only to nearly be let go. Nobody seemed to see anything in him, except for Paul Heyman. It was Heyman who stuck up for him, and eventually had him debut on his rebooted ECW show. While Heyman soon left the company, Punk stuck around and was underutilized, and looked over by others with less talent. It seemed that Punk finally started to break out, when he won the World Heavyweight Title. It was only a tease, as he was mainly used to put over other talent. After years of frustration, he spoke out with his Pipebomb promo that shook the wrestling world. The over-looked Punk suddenly became a hot commodity, and WWE quickly got him a new deal that was more to his liking. He became a star, and ended up holding the WWE Title for over 400 days. No one would have ever have guessed he'd become so big. But Punk just wasn't that satisfied. The night after this year's Royal Rumble, Punk went home. No one except for him and Vince McMahon seem to know the exact reason why he left. There are plenty of theories: he was upset that Batista was slated to face Orton for the WWE Title at WrestleMania, he's jealous over the success of Daniel Bryan or he's is just generally burnt out. It's probably a combination of things at play, but you can imagine the higher-ups in WWE aren't happy that he left with such short notice. When Steve Austin refused to show up to Raw to lose to Brock Lesnar, he was dismissed on air by Vince. Punk may actually be more stubborn than Austin and refuse to ever come back. If that's the case, Punk has already solidified his spot in the Hall, but it may be years before we ever see him enter.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
