WWE: 10 Great Wrestlers Who Are Now Retired

1. Shawn Michaels

shawn michaels The heartbreak kid Shawn Michaels, by far and above easily the greatest pro wrestler of all time. He could do it all, and made it look easy. His promos always had an edge of realness, and he delivered them superbly, as both a top heel and a top face. In the ring he was even better, his execution and delivery of his moves were absolute perfection, and he sold superbly. His list of great matches is endless. How about some of the forgotten classics, his one hour Raw clash with John Cena or the short Raw match in which he made Shelton Benjamin with a stunning super kick timed to perfection when Benjamin springed off the top rope. Nobody in the ring can say they were better than Michaels, he could do anything he wanted in the ring and carried out his work to an immaculate standard. His retirement was the pinnacle of a long and exciting career. Michaels could still wrestle today better than half the locker room, but his interests and life had moved on. Michael Hickenbottom the man had a young family, and a passion for his church and hunting. The long travelled road of wrestling was no longer for HBK. Shawn bowed out in one of the best matches of all time against The Undertaker, and will likely never be matched as WWE's greatest ever performer. Never the less, talk has increased in recent months that Shawn may be back for one more match next year at Wrestlemania. Shawn has said in the past he believes a retirement should mean retirement. But one last match on the big stage against best friend Triple H may be tempting enough to get Shawn back one last time, as will the huge payday. And after being beat up by Daniel Bryan on Raw recently there is even speculation of a Bryan vs Michaels match. Whatever happens, a Shawn Michaels in ring return would be a huge draw for WWE and an instant match of the year candidate. Regarding a return to WWE, Michaels recently tweeted "things are being discussed", but in truth that could mean anything. A more realistic scenario is that Michaels returns to ref a match between HHH and Bryan at Wrestlemania. HBK had one of the best retirements ever and wants to stay that way, his legacy is complete as the greatest pro wrestler who ever lived.
