WWE: 10 Great Wrestlers Who Are Now Retired

5. Bret Hart

bret hart vs british bulldog The Hitman was part of the very fabric of the WWF. He was a WWF wrestler who should have retired in a blaze of glory with a handshake from Vince McMahon. Of course it didn't end that way, and Hart retired after a poor run in WCW after failing to overcome concussion symptoms sustained by a kick from Bill Goldberg. Hart spent the next best part of a decade critical of Vince McMahon and talking up his own legacy. He did of course have a very good legacy, and as such makes this list. His match versus Davey Boy Smith at Summerslam 92 is one of the best WWF matches ever, and Hart also enjoyed great moments as part of The Hart Foundation and as WWF Champion. He defined the WWF for a while after Hogan had left and before 'Attitude' kicked in. His match with Chris Benoit in WCW was also very good. Hart eventually ate a huge slice of humble pie and returned to Vince McMahon and the WWE. This was after saying he would never work for Vince again and being scathing about the company in his autobiography 'Hitman'. Never the less, Bret changed his tune, he went back to WWE, worked an awful match at Wrestlemania and also won the United States Title. Thankfully, Bret is now 100% retired from the ring.
