WWE: 10 Greatest Hell in a Cell Matches

5. The Undertaker vs. Mankind

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUMCfDSu3fM When: King Of The Ring 1998 Where: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Quite possibly the most famous match in wrestling history (though Hogan & Andre have a valid case), it's frankly perplexing to think this wasn't even the main event of the night. Unmatched in its spectacle, this was an unforgettable 15 minutes. After a heel turn as Cactus Jack and brief spell as Dude Love, Foley returned to his Mankind persona and re-ignited his feud with Taker. Matches between the two spelled back to 1996, competing in the first-ever Boiler Room Brawl and Buried Alive matches. They needed to go all out to top their previous classics and boy, did they ever. This wasn't about technical skills or pure wrestling; this was about carnage. Foley wasted no time, climbing the cell before the Undertaker had made his entrance and within seconds of the match starting, it had seemingly ended. In the most jaw-dropping moment wrestling has ever witnessed, Taker threw Foley off the cell roof, crashing into the announce table 16-feet below. A lesser man may have called it a day, apologised to the crowd and gone straight to receive medical attention. But the man dubbed the Hardcore Legend refused to give in, his broken body returning to ascend the cell once more. Depending on who you believe, the second fall wasn't planned. A chokeslam on the roof caused it to buckle and Foley fell again, this time into the ring and knocking him unconscious momentarily. Again the match continued, with Foley even managing to get in some offence of his own and bringing out his trademark thumbtacks/pins. By the end, Foley had suffered a ruptured spleen, a concussion, a broken tooth lodged into his nose and still insisted on walking out. This marmite match is heralded by some as the finest of all time, while others see it as no more than two big spots. What is undisputed, however, is just how memorable it is. For the 17,000 in attendance, they saw something that would live with them forever as Mick Foley literally put his life on the line.
