WWE: 10 Iconic Alliances That Should Be Reinvented For 2014
7. The Heenan Family (1984-1991)
Members of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan's 1980s faction of main-eventers reads like a veritable Who's Who of professional wrestling's all-time greats. Touting superstars such as Andre the Giant, Mr. Perfect, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, and The Brainbusters, Heenan took great pleasure in guiding his hand-picked men to several notable title reigns and two king-of-the-ring coronation ceremonies. Heenan's men typically clashed with Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan, although that is the one title that eluded the Family throughout the era. When a wrestler was no longer producing for Heenan or otherwise living up to his high standards, it was not uncommon for the wrestler to be sold against his will to another manager, or worse, suffer a beat down from the Family or from Heenan himself. One of the most vicious beat downs of the 1980s occurred when The Brain, dissatisfied with the in-ring prowess of newly acquired talent Terry Taylor, sent him an unforgettable message courtesy of The Brooklyn Brawler. Watch the unsettling encounter here, and skip ahead to the 1 minute mark. Nerdy side note: The Rooster beat down features an extremely rare Gorilla Monsoon bump at the 1:28 mark. Monsoon wouldn't again take on-air offense in the WWE for another 7 years at the hands of Vader. 2014 Proposed Update - The Heyman Family Many wrestling fans already make the comparison between Heenan and Heyman, and with their names sounding eerily similar, why not just go all in on this one. The Heyman Family would of course feature current "Heyman Men" Brock Lesnar and Cesaro, but we would also love to see former Heyman alumni CM Punk and Rob Van Dam return to the Family.
