WWE: 10 Independent Wrestlers That Should Be Signed in 2013

4. Mike Bennett

If ever there was a man born for the WWE, it is Mike Bennett. Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, "The Prodigy" has came off the back of an impressive 2012 which saw him slay two well respected veterans in a single calendar year in Ring of Honor, the first being former WWE Intercontinental Champion Lance Storm, and at Final Battle in Jerry Lynn's final ROH match Bennett picked up the victory off a distraction from fiancé Maria Kanellis and some dubious tactics. Bennett's character in ROH is all about being the opposite of the stereotypical wrestler to have stepped through the promotions doors; he doesn't have a diverse move-set like Bryan Danielson or Nigel McGuinness, he's much bigger than the regular ROH competitor, for him it's not about jiu-jitsu kicks or strong style performing and instead about showmanship. Mike is another guy who like Michael Elgin, isn't a question of "if" and is instead one of when? If recent reports are anything to go by Bennett has been in-contact with WWE, around the same time of El Generico. In a recent interview I conducted with Mike he admitted, without hesitation, his dream is to compete for the WWE and when the opportunity presents itself he plans to jump at it.

3. Kevin Steen

xm7j4g Self-admittedly this man is my favorite professional wrestler going today; not of all-time though, that would be Bret "The Hitman" Hart, but I digress. Canadian born Kevin Steen not only reigns as the current ROH World Champion but is viewed by many as the hottest thing burning today on the American independent wrestling circuit. "Wrestling's Worst Nightmare" may not have the body you'd expect of a potential WWE Superstar, but if history has told us anything it's if you can use your size to add depth to your character, don't bother shedding the pounds, like in the past where it made Vader's aerial ability and speed look remarkable, Yokozuna a legitimate sumo wrestler and Mick Foley as the guy who shouldn't make it, but did. What Kevin lacks in the traditional size of a "Superstar," he makes up for in the ring and on the stick. Steen's speed and agile nature is what makes him so impressive, recognized predominantly as a brawler, Kevin has proved he can go high risk, boasting moves such as a 450 Splash and a Split Legged Moonsault to his arsenal. And if you've not seen a Kevin Steen promo before, my heart goes out to you.
