WWE: 10 Most Influential Promos In WWE History

9. €œBret Screwed Bret€ http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2g69p_montreal-screwjob-vince-mcmahon-int_fun#.UMrHvHPjnpg If you€™re a fan of wrestling, the words €œMontreal Screwjob€ mean more to you than just what happened in the ring. To the fans, it represents a definitive break from kayfabe (the code of secrecy all pro wrestlers live by) and gave the audience its first true moment of reality from the ring, completely blurring the line between personal and performance. What followed, however, became a critical moment for the WWE€™s development, because it allowed for Vince McMahon to emerge in a truly villainous role. Before the Montreal Screwjob, McMahon had only a tenuous on-screen relationship with the talent; it was understood that he was the boss behind the scenes, but he had never puffed his chest out as €œthe man€ before that point. With his callous, business-like demeanor being allowed to take hold in this candid interview, Vince set up his role within the company as a dominant force of personality, a heel that everyone could hate. Without the Screwjob, we would never have Austin vs. McMahon, and the Attitude Era may never have happened. As unfortunate as the effect on Hart€™s career was, this represents a truly pivotal moment in the development of the wrestling business as we know it today.
