http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxG_7mnrA1g http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg4tGpfwVfk How do you define the Attitude Era in the WWE? It€™s as hard a task as any that could be set before a wrestling fan, and seems fairly impossible given the amount of greatness that the company experienced from top to bottom between 1997 and 2002. What ultimately stands out to me, beyond The Rock€™s antics, beyond D-Generation X, is the feud between Stone Cold and Mr. McMahon, the very construct the era revolved around. It was the wet dream of every member of the audience, young or old. It was a direct challenge to the authority figures we had grown to hate. Because of this, we loved Steve Austin for whatever he did to Vince. Every week, it seemed as though the Texas Rattlesnake had a new wrench to throw into the Chairman€™s best-laid plans. I struggled forever to find just one Austin/McMahon moment to encapsulate the feud here, but it cannot be done. Eventually, I settled on the two moments from the feud that cemented one undeniable, nightmarish fact in Vincent Kennedy McMahon€™s mind: Stone Cold Steve Austin can get to you anywhere. It doesn€™t matter if you have a sizeable escort from the local authorities. Austin will go above and beyond to take the fight to you, even if means stealing a zamboni. You€™re in the hospital with a pitiable injury? Stone Cold will make damn sure you earn your stay when he whacks you upside the head. This sadism made the WWE audience crave more, and built up a brand that allowed its viewers to indulge in their most coveted fantasies, and never was this more apparent than these two moments.
