WWE: 10 New Gimmicks That Revived Wrestlers' Careers
5. Husky Harris To Bray Wyatt
Remember Husky Harris? Youd be forgiven if you said no. Windham Rotunda debuted as Husky Harris on the second series of NXT and made a few waves, turning heel on his mentor, Cody Rhodes. He then joined the Nexus, which had lost its momentum by this point, in late 2010. When CM Punk took over the leadership of the group, Nexus picked up, but Harris was written out a mere three weeks later. It was felt that he needed to lose weight and get himself into better shape, despite being given the name Husky, as he did not look the part in traditional wrestling trunks and boots. For the following year, he languished in NXT, teaming with his real-life brother, Bo Dallas. In April 2012, Harris was no more, and Bray Wyatt was born. Reminiscent in some ways of Waylon Mercy in the mid 90s, Wyatt was a creepy cult leader whose promos were not standard wrestling fare. Sitting in a rocking chair on the ramp and watching his disciples do his bidding for him, Wyatt was a powerfully different character to anything else that was on WWE programming. Moreover, his new outfit of Hawaiian shirt and high cut vest top covered up the physique that had been his undoing previously. Bray Wyatt and his disciples, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, were promoted to the main roster of the WWE, debuting on July 8th last year. Since then, they have risen rapidly up the card, working a prominent match at WrestleMania XXX and feuding with John Cena. Wyatts character is unique to the WWE, not only in his image, but in the fact that he writes his own promos, rather than have them scripted by writers. Windham Rotunda certainly has the character totally formulated in his own head, and is one of the most entertaining personalities on the roster. A star has well and truly been born.
