6. Bruiser Brody

Moving away from in-ring dangers now and on to the far murkier topic of backstage behavior. In his day, Brody was a mainstay of the American wrestling territories, winning a multitude of titles across the country and abroad. He was also, however, a major hassle to deal with behind the scenes. Well known for holding up promoters for more money, sometimes with physical intimidation, Brody was an odd individual at his core and his errant personality had other members of the locker room walking on eggshells when he was around. A major incident involved himself and Lex Luger in a cage match for the AWA, in which Brody suddenly stopped performing mid-match, for seemingly no reason. Forced to bring the match to a finish (without Brody's help) both Luger and referee Bill Alfonso questioned Brody as to his actions after the match. His reasoning? "The match just wasn't working." On July 16, 1988 he was stabbed to death during a dispute with another wrestler backstage at a show. Perhaps had he not been such a combative and erratic person, he may have avoided this fate.
