WWE: 10 Real Controversies We Want The WWE Network To Cover
8. Daniel Bryan Gets Fired. And Rehired.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLrUmWwvrYc When the first season of NXT ended in 2010, Wade Barrett was the winning star that made his way to the main roster. To the surprise of many though, Barrett didn't come alone, bringing the entire cast of NXT to Raw with him in a fantastic segment where the disgruntled rookies attacked CM Punk and John Cena before completely destroying the Raw set. The story was that the new stars were angry at being made jump through embarrassing hoops by the company during their time on NXT. It was a highly memorable segment that instantly got the new faction over. Soon after though, fans were confused to hear that Daniel Bryan had been fired as a result of his actions during this angle. As part of the destruction, Bryan attacked ring announcer Justin Roberts and strangled him with his own tie. The company reportedly fired him for this act as they deemed it too violent for their TV-PG programming. In an interview in 2013, Bryan also said that he spat on Cena's face during the segment, which was also a factor in his release. To explain his disappearance, the group (now named Nexus) kicked Bryan out for showing remorse for their actions. Bryan noted that WWE apologized for the firing, saying that they had to do so because of pressure from sponsors though Linda McMahon's political contributors were also probably a factor. In response, Bryan what he does best spent two months having amazing matches on the independent scene before being brought back to the WWE at SummerSlam 2010. Since Bryan hasn't yet had an official DVD release, his firing has never been explored publically by the WWE though an honest recap on the Network could explain the situation properly. Additionally, four years later, there are still those who think the whole thing was a work, much like the CM Punk situation we have now. If anything the story is worth revisiting to get closure on what really happened that Summer.
