WWE: 10 Most Shocking Unmaskings

1. Kane Removes His Mask For The First Time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILA7T89vBC0 The most famous mask removal in WWE history belongs to the big red monster, Kane. Why? Because WWE waited six years after the Kane character began to remove the mask. It made it a big deal. Sometimes in wrestling, they rush angles. In this case, they spent so much time building it up as a big deal that when it actually happened there was a big reaction to it. Kane's mask removal happened on a Raw episode from June 23, 2003 after losing a World Title match to Triple H. That was the stipulation. At the time, Kane was a babyface. Fans loved him for his ability to kick people's ass. Once Kane removed the mask, he became a heel again. He attacked his friend Rob Van Dam after removing his mask just because he was so mad that he had to show his face. It was also pretty silly to see a guy with black face paint on as well as a hairstyle that was bald in the front and had some hair in the back. Weird? Sure. But that's pro wrestling. It made him go crazy. He did things like giving a Tombstone to Linda McMahon, he lit Jim Ross on fire during an interview and he tried to electrocute the testicles of Shane McMahon too. Since 2003, Kane grew comfortable with the mask. Then he put it back on again until removing it again in 2013. None of the other mask removals were as important as Kane's, though. Looking back at it, what's brilliant about it is that the mask is part of his story. It's not just there for his appearance. It was Kane's way of protecting himself from others and giving him confidence. Without him, he wasn't the same guy. That's an example of how you can use a mask to tell a story. It's hard to do, but with Kane it worked perfectly.
