8. Sgt. Slaughter And His Iraqi Pals
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9LRzTBc4C8 Sergeant Slaughter had been round the wrestling promotions, including a stint in the WWE in the early 1980s where he was a highly popular face. He returned to the WWE in 1990 when Vince McMahon was looking for a heel. The idea was that Slaughter would turn against the country he is supposed to be serving due to the US acceptance of Nikolai Volkoff following the collapse of the Iron Curtain. It so happened that there was a war going on at this time. In a massive piece of warsploitation, the WWE used the Gulf War as a gimmick for Slaughter who allied himself with Saddam Hussein. He brought along with him the grossly stereotyped General Adnan and the two men trotted about wearing tea towels on their heads with Adnan ranting in 'Arabic'. Colonel Mustafa soon joined them for a while and Hulk Hogan's shirt was burnt. At Wrestlemania VII, Hulk 'I am a real American' Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior beat the dastardly trio. Slaughter got fed up of all of the controversy and threats on his life and turned face. But he did, for a good while, entertain us with the racially über-stereotyped 'Iraqis' and ordaining himself a bad guy by wearing a tea towel on his head.
