6. The Mexicools
The Mexicools were comprised of three famous Mexican wrestlers - Super Crazy, Psicosis and Juventud. Their schtick was that they were Mexicans who were fed up with the stereotypes of their countries. This is all well and good, I don't like some of the stereotypes of my own country, but the Mexicools went about poking fun of Mexicans in a superior manner that was dreadfully racist. They hated the employment of Mexican émigrés in subservient positions to 'Gringo' Americans, and they made frequent grumblings about this in interviews and skits. They made their WWE debut in June 2005 as heels, wearing matching overalls and riding to the ring on a lawnmower, which Psicosis later dubbed the "Mexico Limousine 2005". Juventud made a video ridiculing Mexican Americans and in particular, he questioned the 'True Mexican Luchadores' in the cruiserweight division. The group said that even the Mexican President said Mexicans did all of the crappy jobs no other ethnicity would do in the USA. The 'Gringos' were not going to have Mexicools work for them, the Mexicools were going to have the 'Gringos' working for them. They interfered in matches, frequently riding a lawn mower each down to the ring. Juventud had some success as Cruiserweight champion, but after the death of Eddie Guerrero, there wasn't much room for them in the WWE and they dissolved. On one level, you could say that Mexican Americans/Mexicans were stereotyped in the WWE with even Eddie Guerrero playing into the Mexican thug stereotype with his proclamation 'I lie! I cheat! I steal!'. However, there are more profound ways to challenge racial stereotypes than throwing cheap shots at them and ridiculing them. But this is the WWE and they are not known for subtle or nuanced depictions of race.
