Like so many others before him, the WWE Superstar formerly known as Claudio Castagnoli seemed likely to fall through the cracks of the WWEs star making system. No matter how great we all knew he could be, Cesaro seemed destined to play a part weve seen many times before in the WWE; that of the underappreciated mid-card superworker. The story usually goes something like this; a short stint as a potential next big thing, followed by a lengthy mid-card run, itself followed by a brief, smark-teasing, nearly-but-not-quite main event series and then the eventual downslide into an array of crap gimmicks (deranged nutjob/silly superhero/giant turkey delete as appropriate) and even crappier squash jobs. Then came WrestleMania XXX and with it, the first annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale. In a night full of surprises, Cesaros last-gasp victory over odds-on favourite The Big Show was one of the biggest (and among the most thrilling). The Swiss Superman definitively lived up to his moniker by seemingly effortlessly upending the 425lb giant and hurling him over the ring ropes, sending the worlds largest athlete crashing to the floor below and claiming an astonishing victory in the process. The world took notice. Since then, its been a whirlwind couple of months for the Swiss-born superstar. Now aligned with proven star-maker Paul Heyman as his manager, Cesaro is without a doubt the WWEs fastest rising talent. So, with that in mind, lets take a look back at the life and career of The King of Swing...
I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction.
I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long!
If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it).
I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work.
Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that!
Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?)
Latcho Drom,
