WWE: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Santino Marella

Santino was far more than just a comedy jobber...

WWE.comWWE.comNow that word has come out about Santino Marella announcing his retirement at a WWE live event, it's probably time to look a little deeper, both at the Santino character and at Anthony Carelli, the man playing the character. As one of the more underrated workers in the company, people often tend to overlook his skills, instead choosing to focus on his "comedy gimmick" or that he usually portrays a "jobber", but they forget the fact that he has remained consistently over as both a face and as a heel, no matter what storylines he is participating in at the time. He's been at the bottom (jobbing out in squash matches in mere seconds), and he's nearly climbed to the top (almost winning the 2011 Royal Rumble, as well as almost winning the World Title Elimination Chamber at the 2012 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view). He's had success as a singles worker, and he's had success as a member of a tag team. All of that is fine and dandy, but all of that is also well-known facts. We've all witnessed it, watching his matches through the years. This is about the things that you may not have known about him and his journey from young upstart in the wrestling business to one of the most recognizable men on WWE television.
