WWE: 10 Things I Learned Training To Be A Pro Wrestler With Lance Storm

10. The Fundamentals

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB80zOIyNHc The first thing a student at any good wrestling school learns isn't how to sprint and squat until he or she throws up €“ it's how to feel safe in the ring. We've all seen the first episodes of Tough Enough, where would-be grapplers are taught the unintuitive art of "bumping" €“ falling in such a manner that the least amount of damage and pain are caused. There are front bumps, back bumps, side bumps, flipping bumps €“ and all must be mastered in order to work a wrestling match without causing an injury. At the Storm Wrestling Academy, bumping is taught, practiced, and practiced again. Students must have a feel for how to land safely in the ring before they can proceed. Furthermore, and maybe more importantly, we all had to know how to deposit our opponents on the mat properly €“ so many wrestling maneuvers require one grappler to place his well-being solely in the hands of another. Landing correctly €“ and running the ropes, which can also be treacherous if done improperly €“ is drilled into every would-be superstar.
