WWE: 10 Ways To Reignite The Career Of Alberto Del Rio

Alberto Del Rio has a problem. In less than one year after his WWE in-ring debut in August of 2010, Alberto Del Rio found himself winning the WWE championship. Not only did Del Rio become WWE champion, but he became the first ever Mexican-born WWE champion. While this is a cause for celebration for most, it was absolutely detrimental to the Alberto Del Rio character. The Alberto Del Rio character is a poorly written, one-dimensional, unfinished piece of work. He is Mexico's JBL without a backstory. Del Rio's character is that of wealthy Mexican aristocrat and...that's it. When he debuted, he made his way to the ring in an expensive car, introduced by his own personal ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez. His promo style presents himself as more arrogant than a bottle of Rick Martel's cologne, espousing how becoming WWE champion is his "destiny." He cut the same promo every time, saying this over and over again. "It is my destiny." Alberto Del Rio giving us anymore than that was not in the destiny of WWE fans. Upon winning the WWE championship, the Alberto Del Rio character accomplished his mission. What little we knew about his character and his motivations were wrapped up in less than a year. After a failed face turn in 2013, which seemed solely to benefit two other talents, Jack Swagger and Zeb Coulter, we still know little to nothing more about Alberto Del Rio. Now he is the same arrogant, wealthy Mexican aristocrat he debuted as, just without the snazzy entrance and personal ring announcer. It's been nearly 3 years since Alberto Del Rio's destiny was fulfilled and now he finds himself languishing without any real direction. Del Rio is a great wrestler and a solid worker. Among rumors that Alberto Del Rio may be on his way out of WWE, a fire needs to be lit to reignite his career. I'll go over some of the ways WWE can do this over the next few pages. Alberto Del Rio still has years left in him and can still be a great asset to the future of WWE. This is his destiny.
