WWE: 10 Wrestlers Whose Lives Were Ruined By Substance Abuse

3. Curt Hennig

mr-perfect One of my favourite wrestlers - Curt Hennig found greatest success as a WWE wrestler under the name of Mr Perfect. He was such a brilliant, arrogant, obnoxious heel in this role, you couldn't take your eyes off him. He gave a lot of respectability to the WWE Intercontinental title which he monopolised during the 1990s. He was also involved with the WCW as the enforcer of the Four Horsemen, a member of nWo and also as a member of the West Texas Rednecks who recorded a tongue in cheek song - Rap is Crap. Hennig also had severe back problems throughout his career. Hennig returned to the WWE in 2002. He took part in the Royal Rumble in which he acquitted himself admirably - particularly with the audience and McMahon was sufficiently impressed enough to give him a contract. However, he shot himself in the foot with the 'plane ride from hell' in which he beat up Brock Lesnar whilst both he and his fellow wrestlers all got steaming drunk in an airplane flight and seriously disgraced the WWE. Hennig was released from his contract and took refuge in the TNA. Tragically, on February 10th 2003, Curt Hennig was found dead in a Florida hotel room aged just 44. The cause of death was determined as acute cocaine intoxication. He left behind four children - two of which are now professional wrestlers themselves. Hennig has been hailed as a master technician who brought an air of professionalism and credibility to wrestling. His matches were certainly always intriguing to watch and he is remembered by many of wrestling's greats as a brilliant wrestler.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
