WWE: 12 Dumb Superstar Name Changes That Made No Sense

7. Joe Hennig To Michael McGillicutty To Curtis Axel

Another third generation wrestler who had his name changed for no good reason, Joe Hennig is the grandson of Larry "The Axe" Hennig and the son of Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig. Hennig is one of the most recognizable names in professional wrestling, so wouldn't it make sense to let Joe keep his family name? Unfortunately for Hennig, he was dubbed Michael McGillicutty, probably one of the worst wrestling names in recent memory. McGillicutty had some minor success as a tag champion with Husky Harris but, after the New Nexus failed, McGillicutty was left with nothing to do. More recently, McGillicutty was repackaged into a "Paul Heyman guy" and renamed Curtis Axel as a rather complex tribute to both his grandfather and father. After an Intercontinental title run that went pretty much nowhere, Axel is now out with injury and looks to rebound when he returns.
