WWE: 29 Iconic WrestleMania Moments

WrestleMania 22 - Edge Gives Mick Foley His WrestleMania Moment

When people find out that I'm a pro wrestling fan, a frequent follow-up question is, "So do you also watch UFC?" I've answered this question so many times that the response sounds, to me, like a rehearsed script: "No, I can't stand watching that kind of fighting because it's too real. I like my fighting fake." Until I watched one UFC event (because Brock Lesnar was on the card), I didn't realize how the tricks of the pro wrestling trade brought me enough comfort to justify watching WWE, but never UFC.

The UFC fighters trying to hurt each other aren't a far cry from the more painful hardcore battles in pro wrestling, and so too I was never a hardcore-style wrestling fan. I avoided watching those matches if I could, because I simply didn't find them entertaining. All that being said, I found myself loving this match between Mick Foley and Edge at WrestleMania 22. I was fond of both competitors, plus Lita, and I couldn't tear myself away from their hardcore antics. I loved the big reveal of the barbed wire wrapped around Foley's torso. I loved the horrified expression on Edge's face when he landed on the tacks. And I stood up off the couch, mouth agape, when Edge Speared Foley through the flaming table. Mrs. Foley's baby boy had turned me into a hardcore fan for one night.
