Goldberg came into WWE with a head of steam immediately following WrestleMania XIX, and no one was safe from his path of destruction in the months that followed. Lance Storm, Chris Jericho, and The Rock suffered his wrath, and by August, his sights were set solely on the World Heavyweight Championship.

By that point, Goldberg was already five years removed from the peak of his popularity in WCW, but he was still the most popular fixture on the Raw roster in 2003. If anyone could end Triple H's ruthless reign of terror as World Heavyweight champion, it was Goldberg... or so fans thought.

Golderg clashed with HHH and four other Monday night Superstars inside an Elimination Chamber for the world title at SummerSlam, and although it looked like the world title was his for the taking, HHH laid him out with a sledgehammer shot to the skull to retain his title.

Prior to that point, however, Goldberg was the hottest thing going not only on Raw but the entire WWE that summer. He wound up winning the gold the subsequent month at Unforgiven, but leave it to The Game to ruin a good thing.
