WWE: 5 Best PPV Matches Of 2013

4. Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler, Payback 2013

Professional wrestling is not so much about the actual moves done in the ring as it is about psychology and storytelling. If you can get a crowd invested in a match, then as a professional wrestler it means you've done your job. However, if you can not only get the crowd into your match, but manipulate them into feeling exactly how you want them to feel then you've truly succeeded at your job. This is accomplished when psychology and storytelling coupled with perfect timing all come together in perfect measure. This match was one such instance where this happened and it was magical. The match began with the cocky upstart World Champion taking on the liked and well respected former Champion out to regain his title and slowly through the course of the match the latter underwent a metamorphosis from hero to villain while the cocky upstart transformed into the plucky underdog who never gave up. While the end result was heartbreaking, it doesn't take away from the fact that this was a wonderful story, told perfectly by both men through perfect psychology and timing and the end result was a masterpiece that secured itself a permanent spot in the history books as one of the finest matches not only of this year but of all time and the fact that it managed to achieve a successful (and highly rare) 'Double Turn' is proof enough of that. This wasn't just a match. It was a work of art. Rating: 4.25 stars.
