It's the easiest paradigm in the world of Sports Entertainment that the business is cyclical. Kids who liked it when they were still true believers come back to it as adults and watch it with their kids -- or they get involved in the business -- and angles that used to put asses in seats, are recycled every couple of years or so. But this is a list of six old school concepts they could interject into ANY part of their midcard and get viewers back into paying attention to their product again. Let's get it on...
5. The Man Makes The Title
Triple H - the executive in charge of Talent has famously said 'The man makes the title, not the other way around.' And, honestly, that's true. Think back on heels you hated, I mean viciously hated with all your vitriol. Chances are, if you're in your thirties now, names like Honky Tonk Man and Macho Man come to mind -- and they were Intercontinental Champions. But their heat was usually based on cowardice in the ring, getting over an opponent by taking advantage of heroic tropes, and the fans HATED the for it. Honky Tonk Man would bail out of a ring, use his manager as a distraction, and run away from opponents. Macho would pull Elizabeth in the way, and the fans HATED him for it. The faces would do their best to have a normal match with the guy -- and they'd take advantage of their good natures to win. Of course, titles were held onto for much longer back in those days due to taped television and limited exposure of the champions to the public, and the infrequent nature of supercards -- where they used to be twice or three times a year, now you've got a big card every month. But, take away the time factor, and believe me, Honky Tonk Man was one of the most hated Intercontinental Champions in the history of the title. Tully Blanchard did the same thing with both the Television Title AND the United States Title -- both NOT the World Title - his feuds with Dusty and Magnum TA were HOT draws. Triple H -- hear my plea -- find yourself a piece of crap heel NOONE will cheer for, and give them the Intercontinental Title. Better if you give it to someone with no redeeming qualities. Another fine example of this is Jericho's run as a Cruiserweight Champion in WCW. Which brings me to point number 4.
