WWE: 5 Potential Reasons The Rumble Broke CM Punk

2. His Rumble Elimination

Yeah, it€™s part of a storyline. Sure, it€™s just because of the angle. Yet, Punk€™s Rumble performance and elimination in the closing minutes became a microcosm for his entire WWE career. All of Punk€™s grievances were embodied as he carried the Rumble match for nearly 50 minutes, only to be falsely eliminated (by terms of the Rumble rules) by a wrestler who had already been eliminated earlier in the match. With only Roman Reigns, Sheamus, and Batista remaining with him in the ring, Punk rolled to a corner, only to have Kane emerge from underneath the apron and pull Punk over the ropes to the floor.

It€™s impossible to tell where the storyline with Kane and The Authority was going to lead, but it€™s fascinating how so many of the stories that surround Punk seem to blend fantasy and reality. Punk has let it out here and again that he feels he should have main evented a WrestleMania by now. Strangely, here he is, booked into the final four of the Royal Rumble match. He€™s just carried the brunt of the action and he€™s left in the ring with the recently returned Batista, the freshly returned Sheamus, and the guy that€™s pegged for the future, Reigns.

Yet again he€™s on the cusp. He€™s right at the point of getting to where he believes he belongs. Then he€™s yanked out of the match by a borderline fledgling character at this point in Kane. It€™s as if he was literally pulled back down from where he wants to be to where the WWE perhaps thinks he should be.
