3. He Can Really Wrestle
Its always vindicating when you see a really excellent wrestler get his due. However, it must be conceded by any honest fan that the ballad of the WWF/E Championship has endured more than a few bum notes. In an ongoing, but usually understandable, trend, the WWF/E Champion has rarely been the best wrestler in the show, but in this case, Bryan has that Shawn Michaels appeal of being incredibly charismatic and interesting to watch, whilst at the same time being phenomenally athletic in the ring. After reading that, it should come as no surprise whatsoever to learn that the aforementioned Heartbreak Kid, and then William Regal, were Daniel Bryans teachers. Any Daniel Bryan match is likely to feature a truly 21st century concoction of high spots and set pieces. His moveset includes battle-hardened, tried-and-tested indie go-arounds, high flying lucha libre spots, hard-hitting MMA offence and shoot wrestling holds that have been away from pro wrestling for so long that theyve become a novelty. Somehow, Daniel Bryan simultaneously represents the past, as well as the future, of professional wrestling. Whether hes launching himself at his opponent like a bearded torpedo, bouncing off the ropes like a Human pinball, or breathing new life into real wrestling holds that havent been seen since the seventies, Daniel Bryan is consistently fun to watch. Yes, its vindicating for me as a long-time fan of pro wrestling to finally be able to point to the best technical wrestler in the company, the most charismatic star on the roster and the next Heavyweight Champion of the World and only use one finger in the process.
