WWE: 5 Reasons The Intercontinental Tournament Has Been A Good Thing

2. Proof That WWE Is Getting Smart With Their Choices For The Future

Let's just take a quick look at the men who started in this tournament. And just for fun, let's do it in alphabetical order. Alberto Del Rio, Bad News Barrett, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, Rob Van Dam and Sheamus. Now, looking at that tournament bracket, and keeping in mind everyone's current "power rankings", so to speak, who would you have said was most likely to win this tournament? Del Rio and Henry haven't done anything much of late. Ziggler and Barrett have had a few wins, but nothing spectacular. Sheamus and Van Dam are still relatively recent returns to action, and Jack Swagger found himself on the wrong end of a tag team break up. So logically, we could conclude that going in, the smart money would be on Cesaro, right? WRONG! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lImX7NcIyFc Yes, Cesaro has been on the biggest roll recently. And that's precisely why he SHOULDN'T be the one to win the Intercontinental Championship. The way the Title is perceived at the minute, he has nothing to gain from holding it. He's over with the crowd, he won the Andre The Giant Battle Royal at Wrestlemania (and looked very impressive while doing so) and immediately after, he was given the ultimate stamp of approval by becoming a Paul Heyman Guy. And in the good Brock Lesnar, CM Punk sense, as opposed to the pointless and weird Ryback sense. So winning the Intercontinental Title is not going to give him any more prestige that he currently has. It's smart to give it to either BNB or RVD. Either one is over with the crowd right now. Bad News Barrett has looked very strong in this tournament, winning both his matches cleanly, and no one will complain if Van Dam wins it. Establishing either man is a smarter choice than just throwing another accolade at Cesaro.
