1. He Makes Boatloads Of Money For The Company
Take a look at any WWE crowd during any WWE event, and whose t-shirts do you see on the most people? John Cena, and its not even close. Even if he couldnt execute a front facelock to save his life, hed still be the face of the company on this basis alone. Put simply, Cena has made more money for Vince McMahon in the past 10 years than any other performer on the roster, and hes done it despite being utterly detested by a good portion of the WWEs audience. But then, those people clearly dont detest him enough to stop buying pay-per-views and tickets for live events, or he wouldnt have headlined five Wrestlemanias and the last two in a row. Make no mistake, I find Cenas character just as bland and uninteresting as anyone else does. His in-ring work, on the other hand, while mostly unremarkable, is not as bad as his more ardent detractors make it out to be. It is certainly not my intent to make anyone like John Cena who isnt otherwise predisposed to do so, I merely think it would behoove his critics (many of whom stridently insist that an out-of-touch WWE is intentionally alienating its fans by continuing to push Cena) to step back from their unalloyed contempt long enough to consider the factors that make it perfectly good business sense for him to be the primary face of the WWE.
