WWE: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Is Everything That Is Wrong With Professional Wrestling

4. His Fans Are Beginning To Grow Up

Let us revisit some pro-wrestling history shall we? By the mid 1990's the once famous child like imagery that was at the core of the 80's boom had increasingly become too comical in the eyes of the general public. Quite simply, then WWF was something that you "grew out of" as you became older. The millions of child followers had grown up to become rebellious angst ridden teenagers, and faces like Hulk Hogan were the epitome of everything they were fighting against. The pro-wrestling equivalent of a "hair band." This not only allowed the birth of ECW (the Nirvana to WWF's Poison) but culminated in the event that everyone thought could not be possible. Hulk Hogan turning "heel." The after affect being that the WWF suffered a steady ratings decline that almost closed the doors of Titan Towers for good. Now you'd think after coming so close to non-existence you would learn from your mistakes but as it is plainly obvious to see for anyone with a brain is that they have repeated the exact same mistake again with John Cena. I actually believe that if the WWE had credible competition around in this time (TNA had it's chance) things would have turned out remarkably different when it comes to the current standard. Whereas a decade ago there was a need for someone for the new generation of young fans to latch onto in the wake of the Attitude Era and the Monday Night Wars (and it worked to an extent, don't get me wrong), nowadays those same kids you won over are now in their teens rebelling in their misguided adolescent ways against everything that John Cena stands for. They don't want to be treated as kids anymore, they want to give adulthood a try. And since they are far too young to have kids of their own (in a sensible reality) they are no longer contributing to the products fan base in the long term. By constantly forcing the image of Cena and his fruity pebbles down their throat it is simply making a bad situation worse. Just like Hulk Hogan circa '94, he has now been defined, as has the WWE, as something "you grow out of." And we all know what Hogan had to do to stay relevant now don't we?

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
