4. Credibility With Wrestling Fans
Lets face facts, John Cena is no Lou Thesz. An endless parade of shoulder blocks, ridiculously improbable victories and by-the-numbers matches may wow the junior audience, but frankly, it leaves most wrestling fans cold. A lot of people (myself included) find todays WWE tough to watch because of the seemingly endless parade of 2-minute matches with abrupt endings, followed by Cenas inevitable domination in the main event. These days, it is entirely possible to watch an hour of RAW before you see a decent hold, reversal or slam. Im not bashing Cena or the PG-era, that's just how it is. OK, that's cool. Do what you have to, WWE, but consider this: Regal is a genuine wrestling talent. A lot of fans would LOVE to see him in a top spot. Regal brings a level of wrestling credibility to WWE that certainly seems to be lacking these days. Not only does he have a background as a carnival shooter (a legitimate wrestler capable of taking on all comers), but he is also a darling of Internet fans and wrestling dirt sheets. WWE could have its cake and eat it too. By pitting Cena against an exceptionally talented grappler, older fans would go home happy and younger fans would be happy too. Its win/win from where I'm sitting.
