http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgd1IFMMMVw Afa and Sika stand as the most successful Samoan tag team with successful runs in every major promotion. Their career spans around three decades. The Hall of Famers set the standard for tag team wrestling. During the 1980s they certainly fit in the evolution WWE was going into when it came to characters and the larger-than-life superstars they were spotlighting. The Wild Samoans went on to win the WWE tag team championships against the likes of Ivan Putski and Tito Santana, Tony Garea and Rene Goulet and Chief Jay and Jules Strongbow. Having Capt. Lou Albano by their side added another element of entertainment to the team. The manager was an important piece of the puzzle in getting heat with the crowds. Their reach went beyond the ring in giving back to the business by training some of the biggest names over many years. Afa's Wild Samoans Training Center had a hand in the careers of Paul Orndorff, Junkyard Dog, Rikishi, Sherri Martel, Batista and countless others.
I've covered pro wrestling for more than 10 years interviewing the top names in the industry. I currently contribute to the Miami Herald's pro wrestling section online, the Layfield Report and a variety of other outlets.
