WWE: 7 Matches That Were Too Painful To Watch

6. Joey Mercury Busted His Fact At Armageddon 2006

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN81rkaVhU4 The event was WWE Armageddon 2006. It was a four way tag team ladder match for the WWE Tag Titles. As soon as wrestling fans are told of the match, they remember what happened. Poor Joey Mercury. That's all I could think as I watched the spot where he ended up with a broken nose in three places and a broken orbital bone. It was a typical Hardy Boys ladder match spot as they set up a ladder on top of another one in a slingshot setup. Jeff Hardy jumped off the turnbuckle onto one side of the ladder and that led to the other side striking Mercury and tag partner Johnny Nitro (later John Morrison) in the face. There's no intent to injure in a spot like that, but it looks great if done right. Nitro suffered no damage. Mercury could not say the same thing. A shot of his face showed that his face was completely busted open from his nose. It was not a blade job or anything like that. It was one of the most disgusting injuries that happened during a match in WWE history. The story goes that Mercury became addicted to painkillers after the injury. Thankfully, WWE came to his aid and he was able to overcome it through rehab. He currently works for WWE in a behind the scenes capacity. Joey Mercury was part of a great tag team with Johnny Nitro. Along with their gorgeous manager Melina, MNM was one of the best tag teams in WWE in the 2000s. It's a shame that fans are going to remember Mercury more for his injury than his work in the ring, but it was one of those things that if you saw it you can never really forget it.
