WWE: 7 Recent Gimmicks That Did Not Live Up To The Hype

6. Ryback And Curtis Axel As "Paul Heyman Guys"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELcYRSjVl-E Last year WWE spent a lot of time trying to re-invent Ryback and Curtis Axel by giving them Paul Heyman as their manager. They tried their best to get over as legitimate stars, but it didn't really happen. Axel had a major change as they got rid of his awful Michael McGillicutty name, renamed him Curtis Axel, gave him Heyman as his manager and put him in some major matches right away. Remember the awful "match" with Triple H that led to nothing? That didn't help. He also had many matches with a top guy like CM Punk. Axel had the IC Title for several months, but it really didn't help him too much. Ryback's heel turn the night after WrestleMania 29 was probably the wrong move for him. The way he was booked as a face wasn't going to get him anywhere, but the heel turn was unnecessary. He was just a guy for Cena to beat. Then Ryback saved Heyman in a match against CM Punk, they were together for about a month and then that was it. Finding new people to be Heyman Guys is a good idea, but they chose the wrong guys last year that simply did not live up to the high expectations that management had for them.
