WWE: 7 Recent Gimmicks That Did Not Live Up To The Hype

1. Sin Cara (The Original)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI5RjlfSXww The biggest disappointment of them all is the original Sin Cara. He was supposed to be such a big deal and he ended up being a total letdown. It became official on Thursday as WWE announced that the original Sin Cara, portrayed by Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde, was released from his contract. From the time he showed up in April of 2011 (that followed many videos hyping his debut) to leaving the company nearly three years later, the former Mistico simply didn't live up to his hype. Perhaps the hype was unfair because it wasn't easy going from wrestling lucha libre style to WWE style, but if he's a great performer then he should be able to adapt. His career in WWE will be remembered more for botching moves than for any of his matches. It also didn't do him any favors when he was suspended for 30 days for failing a Wellness Test and also the six months he missed with knee surgery. They tried their best to get him over even as a partner of Rey Mysterio, but it didn't work. Reports of him having an ego and bad attitude didn't help either. One thing WWE messed up with him from the beginning and continues to mess up is the stupid lighting they use when he has a match. He doesn't need to have a spotlight. It doesn't enhance the match. It hurts it. Three years later and they're still doing it. These days, Hunico has taken over the role of Sin Cara since he's a more competent and better worker than the original was, but it's likely not going to last much longer. Now that the Scooby Doo movie is out, the expectation is that they'll pull the plug on the Sin Cara character and basically ignore that it ever existed. That could change, but it doesn't change the fact that the original Sin Cara was a colossal failure.
