WWE: 7 Most Religious Gimmicks In History

6. Dustin Runnels As The Preacher

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM1Ieg4EK24 Dustin Rhodes greatest success in WWE was under the Goldust character. There's no question of that. Goldust was a very successful gimmick for him because he pushed the limits and was always surprising us with what he might do. In May of 1998, Dustin burned Goldust's outfit on the Raw stage and when he returned to the ring he was a Preacher. He went on to use his real name of Dustin Runnels for the next portion of his career. Through most of 1998, he did these promos ripping on what WWE had become. He spoke about how WWE was stained with vulgar language, aggression and sex. That was a reference to his feud with Val Venis, who at the time was having a relationship with Dustin's wife (soon to be ex-wife) Terri. Around this same period, there was a very famous video called "The Preacher's Wife" where they showed Venis in a private moment with Terri. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SM1Ieg4EK24 Dustin's character was never that blatant about pushing God on the viewer, but that's what they were hinting at. The character didn't last too long since Dustin returned as Goldust soon after.
