WWE: 7 Most Religious Gimmicks In History

3. Reverend Slick

The Reverend Slick was a heel manager in WWE from 1986 until the early 1990s. He delivered his promos the same way that a preacher would. His sermons would talk about how his wrestler was going to win matches against another. It wasn't a complicated gimmick at all, but thanks to his unique promo delivery style he was able to have some success in the role. Slick was a good manager that had a decent run managing the likes of Akeem, Big Boss Man, Nikolai Volkoff, Iron Sheik, Rick Martel and others, but he was never the top manager in the company. Men like Bobby Heenan and Jimmy Hart were usually managing the bigger names in the company. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v52qylYPiE Once he was done managing, WWE had Slick deliver segments called "The Gospel According to Slick" talking about how he was interested in reaching people with his vision. He was always a good talker, so the Reverend gimmick fit him well. At least it lasted longer for him than most religious gimmicks in wrestling.
