WWE: 8 Awesome Match Types We Just Don't See Enough Of

2. Hardcore Match

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKmDAtMhVdo In the late 1990s, thanks to Extreme Championship Wrestling, hardcore wrestling came to the forefront of the industry. Suddenly, chairs and various weapons became involved in almost ever match. Disqualifications and count outs were pretty much eliminated and the Spanish announce table was the worst seat in the house. Like many things, too much of something is bad for you. Too much hardcore wrestling is bad because it burns out the audience. You can only see a guy get hit by a chair or fall through a table so many times before you get bored with it. However, enough time has passed that these things can slowly be phased back in when appropriate. Hardcore matches give fans something different during a show. Just like you don't want to see two tag team matches in a row (a major booking no-no), an entire show of one-on-one matches is a good way to bore the crowd. Hardcore matches don't need to be dangerous or be filled with concussion-causing chairshots, they just need to be different. For a time, the Hardcore title and it's 24/7 rule was one of the most popular segments on Raw. Brought back sparingly, the hardcore match could become a popular match on Raw and slowly bring back some of the adult fans who are uninterested in the product.
