8. Jeff Hardy Defeats Edge For The World Title - Extreme Rules 2009
Edge won the World Championship in 2009 by beating John Cena in a last man standing match at Backlash. Following that victory, you might have expected Edge to run into the Summer as 'the man' in WWE. One person standing in his way was Jeff Hardy, the daredevil athlete who was breaking into the WWE main events in a career rejuvenation. Hardy had previously won the WWE Title back at Armageddeon 2008, where he had pinned Edge in a triple threat also including Triple H. Despite Hardy's booming popularity, it was Edge who was World Champion in June 2009, Hardy was merely the pretender to the throne. All that was about to change. Extreme Rules 2009 marked the night that Jeff Hardy finally got a decisive one on one victory over Edge. It came in a ladder match, the contest they had both made famous back in the Attitude Era. In an epic main event which was rammed full of stunts, Hardy shockingly dethroned Edge to become the new World Champion.
