Mick McManus was a star of the British wrestling scene, a superb technical wrestler, and one of the great heels to ever lace up a pair of boots. He was so over in England that he became a celebrity of sorts, he had a national newspaper column, he hanged out with The Beatles, he appeared on chat shows. It wasn't just regional fame however: Steve Austin, Daniel Bryan and William Regal are just some of the greats who have talked about watching tapes of McManus to learn their craft from this master of the art. As a character and as an in-ring worker he was supreme. He was a draw for decades on the british circuit, consistently on the main events. In addition to this he rarely ever lost. A ruthless man and old school talent, he maintained kayfabe his entire life. Long after retirement he would still protect the business and refuse exposures of the industry. He is exactly the type of man who would be very over in any wrestling locker room, a proper man. He died aged 92, after a televised career that spanned 26 years in which he made more wrestling appearances than any other wrestler has on British TV.
